Gwenda Dieleman (b. 1975, St. Thomas, Ontario) is a multidisciplinary artist based in London, Ontario. Working primarily in graphite drawings on paper, pastepaper collages, and handbound artist books, she is best known for her detailed, realistic renderings of hands and figurative works in which she frequently appears as the subject.
Dieleman’s practice explores the shared human experience of loss, hardship, and emotional endurance. Her work is characterized by meticulous craftsmanship, a contemplative approach to representation, and the integration of traditional bookbinding techniques into contemporary visual art. A significant recent undertaking is the ongoing Weighted series (2024– ), which unites graphite drawing with pastepaper to form layered compositions grounded in the tactile qualities of bookbinding materials.
Gwenda Dieleman has participated in exhibitions such as Visual Elements 67: Annual Juried Exhibition at the Woodstock Art Gallery; Kindred Spirits, presented by the Canadian Bookbinding and Book Arts Guild traveling nationally; and On Paper at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery, Grimsby, Ontario. Her work is included in various national and international private collections.
