Wild Clay
Wild clay is clay that has been collected from the local area and processed by hand. The Museum of Ontario Archaeology offers a course on wild clay in which students learn how to find, clean and prepare the clay before shaping it with hand building techniques. The course concludes with a pit firing of the pottery at the Museum of Ontario Archaeology.
It was an adventure hunting for the clay and exciting to find suitable clay at the farm where I grew up and in my own backyard. Waiting to see the finished pieces removed from the pit, was more exciting than opening presents at Christmas!
